How to Play Viego
Champion-specific pre-match tips
Gameplay tips on Summoner's Rift
Lane Phase
Auto-attack immediately after hitting an enemy with Q or W to consume the passive mark for a burst trade and guaranteed sustain.
Lane Phase
Cast E along the longest adjacent terrain piece before initiating an extended skirmish to maintain your attack speed and movement speed buffs for the maximum duration.
Lane Phase
Release W instantly instead of charging it fully when an enemy steps into melee range to guarantee a fast point-blank stun.
Mid Game
Hold your R to execute a low-health target during skirmishes to instantly trigger your passive possession and unlock a second free R cast.
Mid Game
Send E across choke points or objective pits to obscure your true approach angle before stepping into river fights.
Mid Game
Discard a possessed soul instantly by pressing R to reposition quickly if the stolen champion's kit lacks the mobility to chase escaping enemies.
Late Game
Wait for your team to engage and drop a primary target to execution threshold before committing your R into the teamfight to guarantee your first passive reset.
Late Game
Possess a dead enemy tank or support immediately after a kill to absorb incoming burst damage with their health bar and cycle their crowd control before recasting R.
Late Game
Click a soul to trigger your passive possession animation precisely when heavy crowd control is flying toward you to dodge it with the untargetability window.

Gameplay tips in Arena
- Mark with W from short range, use E terrain for approach, and save R to execute or escape. After a possession, cast the stolen champion's highest-value spells quickly and exit.
- Build Kraken Slayer, Blade of The Ruined King, Immortal Shieldbow, and Reaper's Toll. On-hit damage seeks the first possession while Shieldbow prevents dying before it.
- Prioritize Mystic Punch, Twice Thrice, Executioner, and Symphony of War. Attack uptime and execute pressure start the possession chain.
- Before the gates open, identify which enemy possession offers control or an escape. The first takedown is valuable only if the stolen kit lets you survive the second opponent.

How to Counter Viego
Counter strategies and draft context
kite with range, burst before they sustain, or outscale with team-oriented compositions
- Vulnerable to CC during dives — Viego commits hard and can be punished if locked down
- Loses to numbers — Viego thrives in 1v1s but crumbles when outnumbered or burst down
- Ranged champions that maintain distance in trades
- Burst-heavy picks that kill before sustain matters
Viego's Weaknesses
- Layered crowd control — Viego gets locked down mid-dive when the enemy stacks CC and peel
- Coordinated collapses — Viego wins 1v1s but struggles when enemies send multiple champions to the side lane
Best Synergies with Viego
Team synergies and draft context
- Dive buddies that split enemy focus alongside Viego — two divers are harder to peel than one
- Global or semi-global allies that pressure the map while Viego dominates side-lane 1v1s
- Engage supports that set up skirmishes in your favor
- Champions with follow-up CC after your initial dive
Draft Context
- Drafts another diver with no backline carry — Viego disrupts, but the team has no sustained damage
- Ignores teamfight presence — Viego wins 1v1s but the team crumbles in grouped fights without them
