How to Play Gangplank

Champion-specific pre-match tips

Lane Phase

Keep an E sitting directly on top of yourself while farming to deter early engages. If the enemy walks up to trade, detonate it immediately to apply the slow and disengage with the movement speed burst.

Lane Phase

Auto-attack an E once to lower its health and store your Sheen proc on it. Wait for Sheen to come off cooldown, then Q the enemy champion and immediately auto the prepped E to land two Sheen procs in one trade.

Lane Phase

Reset your passive true damage burn by detonating an E during close-range fights. Auto the enemy, detonate your E, and immediately auto them again for a double passive application during an all-in.

Mid Game

Clear jungle camps with your E and Q whenever you crash a side lane wave past the river to maximize gold income and accelerate your core item spikes.

Mid Game

Execute a Phantom Barrel to surprise distant targets by placing your first E, casting Q on it from maximum range, and instantly placing your second E on the enemy before the Q animation finishes.

Mid Game

Cast your ult to turn skirmishes across the map while you stay in a side lane to farm. Center the ult slightly behind the enemy frontline to cut off their escape route and force them to walk through the slow.

Late Game

Place two connected E's out of sight over walls or inside bushes around Baron and Elder Dragon pits. Detonate them as the enemy team funnels through the jungle chokepoint to instantly chunk multiple members before the fight starts.

Late Game

Conserve your Q cooldown during teamfights by executing a triple E combo using an auto-attack on the first barrel. Drop the third E as the chain detonates, then immediately step forward to Q the newly slowed target.

Late Game

Abandon complex E setups if the enemy frontline dives you heavily. Rely on chaining your passive-empowered auto-attacks and Qs to burn down the closest threat while saving your W to cleanse crucial crowd control.
