How to play against Ryze

Lane and teamfight rules that hold regardless of your pick.

In lane and in teamfights

1. Punish him before his mana and item layers come online; early trades matter most.
2. Shove waves when he spends spells on you, forcing him to choose between trading and farming.
3. Avoid solo burst attempts on full health Ryze after defensive items; collapse with multiple teammates instead.
4. Pressure side waves without overstepping, because his R can bring help onto greedy split pushes.
5. Do not chase into his R exit zone; set vision behind objectives before he can flank with teammates.

Where Ryze is weak

Exploit these in draft and in lane.

• Ryze has shorter range than most mages, forcing him close enough for burst, peel, and crowd control.
• His damage needs repeated spell rotations, so interruptions break the rhythm before movement speed lets him kite.
